Bollywood is all set to witness the biggest release of the year. Yes, we are talking about Deepika Padukone starrer film Padmavati but did you know who Rani Padmavati was in real life. So we bring you some unknown facts about Rani Padmavati, the woman who made Alauddin Khalji, the Sultan of Delhi fall head over heels for her.
The mystery behind Rani Padmavati dates back to 1540 when a poem by the name of Padmavat was written by Malik Muhammad Jayasi almost 200 years after the death of Sultan Khalji. This was the first recorded instance of Rani Padmavati’s existence. This poem begins with mentioning Sinhala dwipa where the Princess lived before her marriage. Sinhala dwipa falls in the Ceylon(present-day Sri Lanka).
King Rana Rawal Ratan Singh, of Mewar, participated in Padmavati’s Swayamvar and won her over. But there was a brave condition to win this Swayamvar. The condition was to defeat the fighter and it turned out that Padmavati herself was that fighter. King Rana Rawal Ratan Singh defeated her and eventually married her.
Raghav Chaitanya who was purohit in King Rana Rawal’s courtroom cheated the king as a revenge against his shameful banishment. He was banished because of his mysterious wizardly powers. Later, Raghav joined the Sultan of Delhi, Alauddin Khalji and took revenge on the king. Raghav being the smart wizard lured Alauddin Khalji using Padmavati’s beauty. After which Khalji decided to attack the fort of Chittor. But before that Sultan wanted to check all the facts. So he decided to meet Rani Padmavati.
Knowing the intentions of Khalji, Padmavati requested the Sultan to only see her reflection. But that was enough for Khalji to fall head over heels for her. This incident changed everything and Ratan Singh was invited by Khalji which resulted in his capture. Khalji demanded Padmavati to surrender before him in return for King Ratan Singh’s life. Padmavati did not surrender and sent 700 troops to save her husbands life. Eventually, everyone died, and a battle was announced to capture the fort.
