12 Foods You’ve Likely Been Eating Wrong This Whole Time

Today, even more so than in the past, our attention is focused on the quality of the food we bring to the table. However, we tend to underestimate or ignore the important fact that we sometimes eat certain foods the wrong way. Asparagus, strawberries, yogurt, and beans are all healthy foods but we often don’t eat them properly and end up missing out on their nutrients.

We at Smiles Tv have listed 11 foods you probably have been eating wrong all your life.

1. Flax seeds

12 Foods You’ve Likely Been Eating Wrong This Whole Time

Flax seeds contain fiber, omega-3, lignans, and phytonutrients, all of which are valuable substances for the body. However, our bodies are unable to digest them when they’re eaten whole. That’s why they should be crushed before they’re ingested so that they don’t lose their beneficial properties.

2. Asparagus

Asparagus should never be cooked in the microwave, even when there’s little time to devote to cooking. It depletes the vitamin C content of this vegetable due to the nutrient being soluble in water. The ideal way to cook asparagus stalks is by steaming or frying them so that they turn out tender and crispy.

3. Kiwi

Kiwi skins contain a high concentration of nutrients, especially fiber, folate, and vitamin E. Consumption of a whole SunGold kiwifruit (including the skin) increases the fiber, vitamin E and folate contents by 50%, 32%, and 34%. Since many people don’t consume enough of these nutrients in their diets, eating kiwis with the skin on is one easy way to boost your intake.

4. Tomatoes

Tomatoes are among the foods that must be eaten cooked so that one can benefit from nutrients like lycopene which protects against tumors and heart disease. The nutrients increase if you heat the tomatoes to about 194°F.

5. Black tea

Black tea is one of the most consumed drinks but be careful not to mix it with milk. Dairy products do not affect the antioxidants it contains, but they do block the cardiovascular benefits of tea since milk proteins make tea nutrients more difficult to absorb.

6. Strawberries

Strawberries are rich in fiber, antioxidants, and vitamin C, similar to most red fruits. Because the body needs these nutrients, these fruits should never be stored cut. When strawberries are cut, they become sensitive to light and oxygen and lose their nutrients very easily.

7. Broccoli

Broccoli is one of those foods that should always be eaten raw or at most, steamed. In fact, by boiling or frying them, they lose vitamin C, chlorophyll, antioxidants, and anti-cancer compounds which are all essential to the body.

8. Beans

Dried beans contain antioxidant compounds called phytates, but these bind to vitamins and minerals contained in the food and cannot be absorbed by the body. It would be good to let them soak overnight so that they become free of superfluous substances.

9. Garlic

Garlic contains allicin, an antitumor enzyme that enhances its strength with air exposure. This is precisely why garlic should be chopped before being used and then left to rest for at least 10 minutes. That way, its benefits will be incredible.

10. Yogurt

The watery substance that is often found on top of yogurt as soon as the container is opened is called whey, which contains protein and vitamin B12. Therefore, it should never be thrown in the sink. Before eating yogurt, it would be a good idea to give it a little stir.

11. Cucumbers

It’s preferable to eat cucumbers along with their skin, given its high level of fiber. However, if you’re not sure of the origin of the vegetable and cannot wash it thoroughly, it’s preferable to remove the peel to avoid any intake of pesticides or bacteria.

12. Sushi

Most people eat sushi wrong. You’re supposed to eat rolls using your fingers, not chopsticks. The chopsticks are typically used for eating classic sushi, not rolls. Also, a minimal amount of soy sauce is required, and you should never dip the rice in the soy sauce, only the fish side. Ginger and wasabi are not meant to be mixed with the soy sauce either. Ginger is for cleansing your palate and should be eaten by itself, and only a small amount of wasabi should be put directly on the fish before eating.

There are many other foods we eat the wrong way without even knowing it. Do you know of any foods that weren’t mentioned above? Have you ever eaten this food or anything else the wrong way? Share your suggestions with us in the comments!
